ACOSTA-HUGHES, Benjamin, LEHNUS, Luigi, and STEPHENS, Susan (editors) - Brill's Companion to Callimachus Leiden / Boston, Brill, 2011. Hardcover. Small 4to. Pictorial cloth. xviii, 708pp. Near fine. Couple of corners slightly bumped, else tight and bright with text block pristine. Superb first edition. The ancient Greek poet, scholar and librarian at Alexandria (c. 310-240 BCE) supposedly wrote some 800 works, only a fraction of which (prose and poetry) survive, but these and his aesthetic philosophy became popular with the Romans and his influence is considerable. This massive reference with contributions from major scholars in the field is surprisingly scarce. .
