She was an accomplished screenwriter on Broadway in the 1950's and was romantically involved with Dashiell Hammett who wrote The Maltese Falcon. Hellman's screenplay Little Foxes", which starred Bette Davis received an Academy Award nomination in 1942. A lovely copy indeed in the publisher's gray cloth covered boards, a trifle faded at the spine and lacking the dustwrapper. .
