Lee, Arthur Hamilton, (Lord Lee) - An Autographed Letter, Signed

White Lodge, Richmond Park, 1933. On personal stationery. Lord Lee writes to Hermann Hagadorn, thanking him for sending his book on Gen. Leonard Wood. Lee states that he has already read it and it “interested me enormously”. He further states that he admires Wood who he first met in Cuba in 1898 when a detached British officer. Lee accompanied Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders up San Juan Hill. Lee invites Hagedorn to his home, looking forward to seeing each other again. Lee was a life long friend of Theodore Roosevelt as was Hagedorn, who worked with the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Association. Signed “Lee”. Arthur Hamilton Lee, 1st Viscount Lee of Fareham GCB GCSI GBE PC (1868-1947) was an English soldier, diplomat, politician, philanthropist and patron of the arts. After military postings and an assignment to the British Embassy in Washington, he retired from the military in 1900. He entered politics, was first elected in 1900, and later served as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and First Lord of the Admiralty following the First World War. He donated his country house, Chequers, to the nation as a retreat for the Prime Minister, and co-founded the Courtauld Institute of Art. Very good .
