Boston, Thomas Hollis, Chemist, Publisher. Unbound. French Hair Dye. For Coloring Grey, Red, or Light Hair a Beautiful Black or Brown [..] Directions for use sheet. Thomas Hollis, Chemist, Publisher. Boston: no date, presumed sometime between 1826 and 1853, based on the address of 30 Union Street in Boston. Thomas Hollis was located at 23 Union Street after 1853. Single piece of paper, folded into two approximately 8 by 10 sheets, each containing the same information. A short paragraph of directions for using French hair dye "without coloring the skin or injuring the hair." The key to this may have been the overnight application of lettuce or cabbage leaves to the hair. Thomas Hollis apparently established his business in 1821, and sold prescription drugs, among others. His sons took over the business in 1875. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven darkening with a few small, faint dampstains to the paper. Minor wrinkling. A hint of staining and soiling. Good .
