Oval bust-length portrait of Henri Fran;cois d'Augesseau (1668-1751), Chancellor of France three times between 1717 and 1750 and pronounced by Voltaire to be "the most learned magistrate France ever possessed". Engraving and etching on hand laid paper, sheet size 253 x 190 mm. Engraved by Jean Daullé after Joseph Vivien, 1761. Jean Daullé (Abbeville 1703-1763) was a French engraver of high reputation. He primarily made portraits. Worked for Rigaud from 1735. Received at the Académie Royale, 1742. Joseph Vivien (Lyon 1657-1734 Bonn) was a French painter. In good condition, cropped within platemark, some general soiling in the edges and caption below the image. Scattered foxing in the margins and corners of the image area.
