Initials E.A. in gilt at foot of spine, probably the author's own copy (?).AND: First edition of the first Khmer-French dictionary. Folio. Pp. (ii), xviii, 436. Lithographed text. Scholarly notes in pencil. Modern cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Original printed wrappers with bound (front wrapper with small repair). Occasionally some browning, a tiny hole affecting first few leaves in margin, title page lightly stained and with old pencil annotation, last few leaves with small marginal tear. Aymonier, French linguist who served as Colonial Officer in Southeast Asia between 1869 and 1888. He was the first archaeologist to systematically survey the ruins of the Khmer empire and was Director of the École Coloniale 1889-1905.
