Following his early childhood success, Gilbert starred as a comedian and actor in over 200 feature films, short subjects and television shows. Known for his comic sneeze routines, Gilbert was also a writer and film director. Composed by Oscar Straus after George Bernard Shaw's play "Arms and the Man", "The Chocolate Soldier" is an operetta with a libretto by Rudolf Bernauer and Leopold Jacobson.
