Zurich: Meyer und Zeller, 1844. 1844. - Octavo, 8-1/2 inches high by 5-3/4 inches wide. Softcover, in light teal printed wraps titled and decorated in black on the front cover with the table of contents printed within a decorative frame on the rear cover. The book is largely disbound. The covers are soiled, creased and chipped. The spine has split with pieces out from the head and tail. [iv] & 138 deckle-edged pages, illustrated with an 8-1/2 inch high by 18 inch wide engraved folding map titled "Carte des Unteren Linththales und der zu Entsumpfung der Thalebene ausgefuhrten Canale". The overlapping edges of a few of the deckle-edged pages are lightly chipped. There is scattered foxing throughout with dampstaining to the top edge of many of the pages. A good complete copy of this rare book.

RARE. The map was engraved by Johann Jakob Goll after a drawing by Heinrich Pestalozzi. Pestalozzi (1790-1857) was a Swiss colonel, engineer and cartographer. He received training in cartography from the Swiss Quartermaster General Hans Conrad Finsler. He wrote a number of hydrographic treatises including one on the Linth correction. In addition to the article on the Linthkanal, the periodical has an article concerning the controversy over recalling the Jesuits to Lucerne. Fair .
