This book developed out of the Academie of Var's 1980 celebration of the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Provence region's most famous son, the celebrated antiquarian, humanist and scholar Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc [1580-1635]. Though Peiresc began by taking a law degree, his fields of study expanded to include antiquities, Oriental studies, natural history, the history of Provence and historical linguistics. Good .
