Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704) was a French bishop and theologian in the court of Louis XIV, the "Sun King", a renowned orator and one of the most fervent defenders of absolute monarchy. Scarce. ABPC shows neither work at auction in the last half century, though a copy of L'Esprit de Bossuet was auctioned in Europe in 2004. See Delamarre, Louis, and Ferdinand Brunetière.
