Brunhammer, Yvonne. (Arbus, Andre) - Andre Arbus. Architecte-Decorateur Des Annees 40 Paris, Editions Norma, 1996. First edition. Blind embossed maroon morocco, gilt spine letters, silk bookmark. 399 pp. Illus. with color & b/w plates. 4to. The first and only substantial monograph on this most important French Art Deco and modernist architect, designer, furniture maker, and sculpture (other than two very short works by George Waldemar in 1948 and 1956). Arbus (1903-1969) trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Toulouse and at his family's cabinetmaking workshop. His career as an architect took off when his design of a single family house was exhibited at the 1937 International Exposition. A beautiful production. We could find no other copies bound in leather offered at sale or auction. Faint rubbing to rear board else a fine copy in original raw cardboard slipcase.
