Rebound in green boards with brown leather spines (spine text hard to make out). Besides having numerous library stamps and labels inside, the bindings are extremely weak, with most pages loose. Closed tear at top of volume 1's spine. Plates in volume 2 are lightly foxed. Occasional soiling and dampstaining in the margins, but most pages are clean. OFFERED AS-IS. Volume 1 and 2 only (of 4). Illustrated with hundreds of fine black and white engravings by Gustave Dore and many other notable artists. Undated 19th-century printing, ca. 1870. Both volumes measure approximately 11" x 9.5.
