Dillwyn, Lewis W. - CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS A HISTORY OF SWANSEA.

Swansea: Printed by Murray and Rees, 1840. Large Thin 8vo. [vi] + 72pp. Tinted frontis., ills. [Lacking portion across head of title page]. Some browning and spotting, brown paper wrapps. bound in, inscription, front f.e.p. cracked along gutter hinge with corresponding paper loss along pastedown, early gilt lettered navy blue cloth with worn calf corners with some loss to leather, rebacked in modern gilt lettered green cloth. ¶ Scarce, apparently only 300 copies printed. Lewis Weston Dillwyn (1778–1855), naturalist and porcelain manufacturer. Dillwyn supported local causes, donating some of the profits from his Contributions towards a History of Swansea (1840) to Swansea Infirmary. Ex.-libris Lieut-Commander D. Le Cronier Chapman of Gower, Donald Le Cronier (fl 1930-1957) Chapman was a member of the Royal Institution of South Wales, Fishery Officer and Lloyds Agent : West Gower. He was a local historian and antiquarian.
