AUBERT, CANON ROGER - Cardinal Mercier - Archbishop of Malines 1906-1926 - a Churchman Ahead of His Time

Antwerp. Soft Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Card covers have some fading but unmarked with no wear. Internally very clean with some small handwritten corrections (probably by translator). 32 pages. Photo illustrations in the text. Translated by Francis J. Thomson, Professor at Antwerp University. Not dated but probably 1950's/1960's. Désiré-Félicien-François-Joseph Mercier (1851-1926). He served as Archbishop of Malines (Mechelen) from 1906 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1907 and was thus Primate of Belgium. Mercier is noted for his staunch resistance to the German occupation of 1914, and is considered to have been the mentor of Leo Cardinal Suenens. His comprehensive knowledge of Saint Thomas Aquinas earned him the chair of Thomism at Louvain's Catholic university in 1882. NOT AN EX LIBRARY COPY R8. Very Good/No Jacket.
