Uncommon in the trade, not found in Children's Books, Rare Book Division, Library of Congress. Bound in faded, a bit splotchy, stamped purple cloth, sunned at spine to brown. Front inner hinge stretched after frontispiece. Toned endpapers, split rear endpaper. Previous owner's typed and ink-stamped inscription plus 19th century book-ticket. No date of publication, but perhaps prior to 1885. "When Kate changed the water for her bird, she was careful to place a piece of wood before he hold till she had put back the bottle; but George was too young to think of such a precaution." When he touched the cage to change the bird's water . . . but . . . after other false starts . . .
