Bound in original publisher's brown cloth over boards, blind-stamped illustration to front cover, gilt lettering to spine, rubbed. Welch, Bigelow & Co. stereotyped this copy for the publisher. Ink-blotch to bottom edge, bumping to, fraying of spine head and foot. From the personal library of a Civil War soldier, Mr. E.W. Rogers, 1st Lieutenant of the 19th N.Y. Battery, having "arrived from home" on December 26th, 1862. Title page says 1863, copyright page says 1862. 375 pp. plus 16 pp. of publisher's advertisements. This is Winthrop's account of his travels in Oregon and Washington in 1853, during which he spent much time among the Native American Indians of the Northwest, and he includes a partial vocabulary of the Chinook Jargon. I've done my best to state clearly and truthfully the condition of each and every book I have listed on-line. Sometimes, however, books change condition insofar as they sit on the shelf for a long time, get moved by customers, get taken to and from book fairs, and so on. Most orders will ship within one to two business days, but often times, they will go out on the same day as they are ordered. I've based my shipping costs on the assumption of books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. If your book order is heavy or oversized (extra thick, extra long, etc.), I may contact you to let you know that extra shipping is required. Bubble mailers and boxes will be expertly and securely wrapped and monitored. Please contact us if there is anything extra or different you need us to do.
