Schechter, Betty - The Dreyfus Affair: A National Scandal

London, Victor Gollancz, Ltd., 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Size: 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound hardcover, clean but for ink-stamp of previous owner at first free endpaper, minimal rubbing to extremities. Bound simply in red cloth over boards, with sharp and distinct gilt lettering to spine, very slight forward cock thereto. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, little worn, protected by a plastic coat. A readable, accessible account of the Albert Dreyfus Affair but that reads like a police procedural run amok when concern for justice is overwhelmed by antiSemitism. Safeguards of proper legal procedure are thrown out in favor of French perceptions of Semitic guile and treachery. A dozen illustrations in black-and-white, including of Albert Dreyfus himself and Emile Zola, his major supporter and who himself had to go into exile. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Frontis matter, 3-239 [3] pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . .
