Wagner, who signs the work at title page, having been given this as a gift by "Nancy." D.R. Wagner is a noted needlepoint tapestries artist and who works in poetry, music, and the visual arts, one of the first Americans to write "concrete" poetry. The Schneider Museum of Art concluded in 1994 of the exhibition of his work they mounted there that "His work explores the borders between written and spoken language, signs and symbols, and the visual world of painting. For over two decades Wagner has been producing labor intensive, intricate embroideries that transpose the narrative text or voice of the poet into multi-colored textile images. His use of the medium is ironic." Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound hardcover, clean, if toned, minimal rubbing to extremities. Bound in brown cloth, with gilt lettering and design to front cover and spine. Some rubbing along extremities. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, little worn, protected by a plastic coat, clipped at bottom. 95 full-color plates and 60 monochrome plates, depicting the social history and geographic range across China of rugs and rugmakers, tools and materials.
