Works like Barometer Rising, 1941 and Two Solitudes, 1945 established his credentials as one of Canada's greatest novelists. He also published several collections of essays & has himself been the subject of academic study. The National Film Board (NFB) Canada paid tribute to MacLennan by dramatizing his life and work. In portraying Canada's national character in fiction, the Nova Scotia-born novelist and essayist assured other younger writers that their country was worth writing about.
