BATEMAN H. M. - Suburbia. Caricatured by H. M. Bateman. IN ORIGINAL BOARDS

Methuen,, [1922]. Sm. folio, First Edition, with full-age illustrations throughout, endpapers lightly browned; original pictorial boards, black cloth back, very neatly recased, covers mildly age-marked else an unusually well-preserved, bright, clean copy. The third of Bateman's cartoon collections, and the first to focus on a specific theme - one which Bateman was to make his own. He had just changed houses in Clapham, seen then (as perhaps now) as the very essence of his subject. 'It is fair and reasonable to call Clapham the capital of Suburbia' (TWH Crosland, 1905).
