Original illustration, New Year's greeting and autograph, dated the year following the 1928 publication of his landmark book, THE OUTERMOST HOUSE. FROM THEIR OLD FRIEND OF THE OUTERMOST PALAZZO. - HENRY. NEW YEARS 1929." Henry Beston donated Fo'castle to the Audubon Society in 1959. He urged young visitors to the site to keep a reverence for nature in their hearts. The house was washed away by a hurricane in February 1978, but pilgrims still come each year to see the place where it stood.  Attention admirers and collectors of Henry Beston and Elizabeth Coatsworth: Many more unique items from TBCL's private Beston Collection are now available. His now classic observations of Cape Cod are captured in his classic, The Outermost House, written after Beston spent what he called "a year of life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod", and has been called one of the motivating factors behind the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Author Rachel Carson said that Beston was the only author who ever influenced her writing. Beston married writer Elizabeth Coatsworth in 1929. .
