MACLEAN, DONALD. - The Luck of the "Gold Moidore".London: H.R. Allenson Limited, nd. (c.1921). Presumed first edition. "Being the contents of the original Manuscript written by Master Andrew Barton, sometime Merchant and Shipowner, of Plymouth Town, England, which was found in the old log hut on Curdie's River. In which MS. Master Barton tells of the wild voyages of the "Gold Moidore" and the "White Ship" to the Great South Lsnd in search of treasure in the years 1627-1629, and of the astounding experiences by sea and land of the men who sailed in them". This book was published serially in England in 1915 under the title "The Mahogany Ship". Owing to the First World War, and the author's absence, no effort was made then to issue it in book form. Following the war, the book was to be published under that tite but in the last stage of corrections in the printing process, another book with the same title and about the same legend appeared on the market. The title of this book was hence changed to "The Luck of the Moidore". Pp.240, inscribed by the author ("Kenneth Williams with all good wishes from the writer on the occasion of his setting out for the University (Aberystwyth [later annotation] ) 29.9.21. Donald Maclean. Reading" to front free endpaper, slight toning to pages. Orange/brown cloth has fading to spine and mottled discolouration to boards, wear to top and tail of spine. Scarce. Good.
