BLACK, VERONICA - My Name Is Polly Winter

London, Robert Hale. 1992, First Edition. (ISBN: 0709049013). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Silver title on blue boards which are clean and unmarked with no wear or damage. Internally clean and unmarked apart from a few very small marks to top edge. A near Fine copy. Dustjacket is clean and unmarked and also near Fine but has rippling to the plastic cover and is not price clipped. Veronica Black is the pseudonym of Maureen Peters. The title is the words printed on a slip of paper in an old cookery book which historical researcher Cordelia James traces to a child in a pink dress who makes brief appearances in the vicinity of The Cedars where she has rented a room. There are other clues - the records of a mid 19th century case of a vanished governess and child. Parallels emerge as the house cleaner and her daughter go missing, as an old tale of lust and murder is replayed in a house where the restless ghost of Polly Winter seeks justice. C3C. Near Fine/Near Fine.
