Van Dyke was the US Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg between 1913 and 1916. Miss Rix seems to have been known to him during that period. Marshall Langhorne was the Secretary of American Embassy at The Hague. Cover design by Margaret Armstrong. Dark blue clean covers with ornate decoration and lettering in gilt and green and white..
