BREUER, JOSEF.- AUTOBIOGRAPHY & COMMEMORATIVE SPEECH HANS MEYER - Dr. Josef Breuer 1842 - 1925.

No place, No publisher. (1925). Square 8vo. Original cream coloured brds. (covers some soiling; spine with a 'pamphlet stitch'). W. front. portr. of Breuer & 3 full page portrs. in the text. (30 pp.). A very rare autobiographical sketch by Dr. Josef Breuer, written two years before his death (June 1925), at the request of the Vienna Academy of Science. The Academy requires of its members a "Curriculum Vitae" upon joining as a (corresponding) member. Dr. Breuer, who became a member in 1894, honoured this request only in 1923, at 82. Upon Breuer's death the 'Generalsekretariat' of the Vienna Academy allowed the printing of the autobiography in a very limited number of copies for friends of the deceased. The words spoken by Prof. Dr. Hans H. Meyer at the cremation on 23 June 1925 follow the autobiography on pp. 27 - 30. A printed note on the upper paste down reads: 'Very rare. C.P.Oberndorf edited and translated Breuer's autobiography in the Int. J. [f.] Psychoanalysis, vol. xxxiv, no. 1, pp. 64 - 67, Part I, 1953. Oberndorf states that "only four copies are presumed to exist" and "A copy of Breuer's [auto] biography is one of the treasures of the [N.Y. Psychiatric] Institute's Library.':
