Family album which belonged to the family De Vries, starting from 1837 till 1885. Central theme of the album is the urge for philosophical wisdom, illustrated by poetry and tekst of famous writers and poets (Schiller-Voltaire-Montgomery-Vondel-Beets), and several new items. Friends of the family from all over Europe have contributed to this album. The album contains 11 portraits and litho's of the Leiden circle of famous scientists from which the family originate. Sophie Reuvens-Blussé (also known as D.N. Anagrapheus) received the album after the death of her husband C.J.C. Reuvens, prof. in archeology, in 1835. On the first page of the album a glued cart dated sept 1904 of Mr. G. de Vries (married to M.E. Reuvens), states: After my death this Album should belong to Egbert de Vries. On the first page a glued engraved plate of a woman breastfeeding a child with the text "the houseless traveller" from a group in marble by R. Westmacott Esq. R.A. drawn by H. Corbould, engraved by I. Thomson.
