Cameos (1524-1580) was Portugal's great national poet and author of the epic poem Os Lusiadas (1572, the Lusiads) which. describes Vasco da Gama's discovery of the sea route to India. Camoes had a permanent and unparalleled impact on Portugese and Brazilian literature alike, due not only to his epic but also to his posthumously published lyric poetry. Paper wraps are loose, title page is detached. Ex lib with library ink stamp on title page "from Livraria Colonial, 101 Rivert St, New Bedford, MA". No other ex-library markings.
