CRAIG, MARY - Tears of Blood: Cry for TibetHaper Collins. 1993. (ISBN: 9780006277088). Paperback. Condition good. Isbn 0-00-627708-X, 000627708X. The Chinese Communists invaded Tibet - a country the size of Western Europe - in 1950 in order, they said, to "liberate" it. They claimed that Tibet was an integral part of China, and though the claim was untrue the rest of the world didn't care very much. Within 20 years, over a million Tibetans had been killed, by execution, torture, long imprisonment, starvation and sickness - to say nothing of the countless suicides. Tibetan treasures and natural resources were mercilessly pillaged and the Buddhist religion was banned. Only 12 monasteries were left out of an original 24,000. In recent years a systematic Sinocisation of the country has taken place. The natives have been reduced to a slave-like status. Appalling brutality continues, and China's "Final Solution" proceeds unimpeded. Mary Craig's book tells the story of modern Tibet, based on interviews with many exiled Tibetans and in-depth research. Used: Acceptable.
