Brown, Dr Robert. - Remarks on the Formation of Fjords and Canons. [From the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London, 1871].

London: William Clowes & Sons, 1871. 13[1] pp. Authers inscription to upper section of front wrap. From the library of James CROLL (1821-1890), Scottish scientist and geologist. He was essentially self-taught with a background in hotel management and insurance. His orthodox scientific career began with an appointment to the Geological Survey of Scotland in 1867, a position he held until 1881. He corresponded with Lyell, Geikie and Darwin; Geikie in particular encouraging him in his researches. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1876 and received an honorary LL.D. from St. Andrews in the same year. The last ten years of his life were dogged by ill-health and he died in Perth in 1890.' Original printed paper wraps. 20.5 cm x 13.5 cm. Lacks rear wrap, contents lightly age browned.
