An unrecorded, very-early, possibly second printing of Hawthorne's "The Intelligence Office" (first published a month earlier, in March of 1844, in United States Magazine and Democratic Review, XIV), it would eventually become part of the author's collection of 23 short stories "Mosses from an Old Manse," published in 1846 and named in honor of the manse Hawthorne lived in in Concord, Massachusetts.
