Mitchell, Edw. - Panoramic View of San Francisco, Cal. , After the Terrible Fire of April 18, 19, 20 and 21, 1906, Following the Earthquake. Photographed from Pine and Hyde StreetsSan Francisco, Edw. H. Mitchell, 1906. First Edition. Large broadside, from a black & white, panoramic photograph, with white margins; 9 1/4 x 32; several closed cuts and creases to margins; old fold lines; occasional spotting and discoloration to outer edges, mostly not affecting the image; several buildings and landmarks subtitled above, in the top margin, with a vertical text; in about good to very good condition. An, apparently, unrecorded panoramic view of the city in ruins, following the earthquake and subsequent fire, it was released by a man, generally known as one of the most prolific postcard publishers on the West Coast. Primarily a businessman and not a photographer, Edward Mitchell (1867 - 1932) would buy out competitors and would dominate the industry from the late-19th century to the 1920s. Most probably trying to capitalize on the devastation, Mitchell strayed way off his field and published the following broadside. Good .
