Printed by J. Johnson. 1784. Second Edition, 12mo, viii,136pp., early ownership signature on front endpaper, text lightly browned, cont. calf, hinges cracked. First published in 1781 with a sixth and final edition appearing in 1807. John Elliot, M.D., was born at Chard, Somerset in 1747 and died in 1787 in Newgate prison by voluntary abstinence from all food, while awaiting trail on a charge of attempted murder but later acquitted. Elliot practised as an apothecary in Soho, first in Carnaby Market, and then as he prospered, in Great Marlborough Street, and later as a Physician in Newman Street.
