Catalog for an exhibition of the same title presented by the J. Paul Getty Museum from December 7th, 1993 to March 6th, 1994. In his essay, Michael Hargraves notes that after photography was invented in 1839, early examples of the art were never very large because of the limitations imposed by the size of camera lenses. Early commercial photography was often in the form of miniatures on cartes-de-visite or "calling cards". Fine .
