[HALIBURTON, THOMAS CHANDLER] - The Attaché; or Sam Slick in England (New Revised Edition)

 1528186390,
New York: Dick and Fitzgerald, [c.1870s-1900s]. Hardcover. An undated, revised edition of Thomas Chandler Haliburton's humorous 1843 novel. This work was one of several featuring the author's Sam Slick character, whose sayings became popular. Some of them, such as "it's raining cats and dogs", "quick as a wink", and "facts are stranger than fiction", though attributed to Sam Slick, probably preceded him. Haliburton was a Nova Scotia judge who emigrated to England. His name does not appear in this book, which might have been published c.1870s-1900s. --- In gold cloth covers with illustrations and titling in blind to cover and spine. An entry in publisher's "Library of Sam Slick's Works". --- The covers are coated in clear hard shell glaze and spine titling isn't especially readable. Interior is relatively bright, but with usual foxing to leaves, darkened corner of front cover. Front free endpaper with a couple of open tears; dampstains to most leaves. Scarce in this edition.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); 359 pages. Good+ with no dust jacket .
