In July 1838, Geiger gave his first sermon in Breslau, but only at the end of 1839 he was officially appointed as second rabbi of Breslau. In the meantime, he had to defend himself against the accusations of the conservatives. This "Sendschreiben" is the main document for this period and contains Geiger's "Äusserung über die in einem Pro memoria gegen meine jüdische Rechtgläubigkeit vorgebrachten Anschuldigungen".
