BOZ - Charles DICKENS - Oliver Twist; or The Parish Boy's Progress. By ''BOZ''.

Paris, A. and W. Galignani and Co., 1839. 21 x 14 cm. [4],367 pp. Contemporary blind boards. One of the first Paris editions published under the pseudonym ''BOZ'. - The enormous success of Dickens' second novel 'Oliver Twist' (London, 1838) is shown by the fact that in Paris two full text publications appeared in 1839, by Baudry and by Galignani. The editions are identical, except for the title page. The target was the French elite who could read English and the English who stayed in France. - Late 19th century binding and endpapers, hinges worn [but firm]; some foxing/browning throughout, else a good copy
