G+ ** "This work was published anonymously by John Leycester Adolphus (1795-1862), an English lawyer and author. He discusses the authorship of the then anonymous Waverley novels, and concludes that they were written by Sir Walter Scott, based on the resemblance of the novels in general style and method to the poems acknowledged by Scott. Scott thought at first that the letters were written by Reginald Heber - the great bookcollector, later to become bishop of Calcutta, who had earlier postulated that Scott was the author - and the discovery of J. L. Adolphus's identity led to a warm friendship.".
