Buckram, dj, VG+/VG. 2 volumes, xiv+82+[439]pp, xxvi+456pp, 439 pages of plates in volume I containing the facsimile of Copernicus' MS of De Revolutionibus, b/w illustrations to volume II, dustjackets a little yellowed & slightly edge worn, corners bumped, a nice set. Limited to 650 sets. Hardback with dustjacket. ¶ A facsimile & transcription of the MS of Copernicus' De revolutionibus orbium coelestium with a long introduction. The MS remained in Copernicus' possession until his death & was then in several hands until the manuscript turned up in the library of Otto von Nostitz [ 1608 - 1665 ] where it remained for 300 years. In 1945 the Nostitz library was seized by the Czechoslovak government who in turned gave it to the Polish nation in 1956.
