Titlepage in red and black; with eight panoramic views of Leuven, Brussel, Antwerpen, 's-Hertogenbosch, Gent, Brugge (2) and Ieper, initial letters and other small engravings. Gilt morocco letterpiece on spine partly gone; binding has some normal imperfections spine is missing a few very small pieces; sides a bit scratched etc). Manuscriptual and stamped exlibris on titlepage. Bibliotheca Belgica, G. 116. Jean-Baptiste Gramaye (Antwerpen 1580 - Lubeck 1635). Historian, voyager and latinist. He was a professor in justice and eloquence at the University of Louvain. During one of his voyages he was taken prisoner by African pirates and travelled everywhere in Africa. At last he got free and then he was appointed by the governor Albertus van Oostenrijk to a notable function.
