A very good full leather binding. 8.5" x 5.5" x 1.5". 8vo. pp.8/pp.171/pp.351/[1p. - Books published..] + 3 full-page engravings (including frontis). Mottled calf with gilt filet border. Smooth spine with gilt banding and original crimson leather title label. Edges lightly rubbed and bumped. Marbled endpapers. Gilt leather roundel laid-down to the verso of the front board: "Hon. Octavius Duncombe". Clean English text throughout, just light offsetting of the engravings. ** "Rachel, Lady Russell (née Lady Rachel Wriothesley 1636 – 29 September 1723) was an English noblewoman, heiress, and author. Her second husband was William, Lord Russell, who was implicated in the Rye House Plot and later executed. Duncombe was a younger son of Charles Duncombe, 1st Baron Feversham, and Lady Charlotte, daughter of William Legge, 2nd Earl of Dartmouth. Admiral the Hon. Arthur Duncombe was his elder brother. Duncombe was elected Member of Parliament for the North Riding of Yorkshire in 1841, a seat he held until 1859, and again between 1867 and 1874. Duncombe married Lady Emily Caroline, daughter of John Campbell, 1st Earl Cawdor, in 1842. He died in December 1879, aged 62. His wife died in March 1911." - See Wikipedia.
