The first edition of this work, a very scarce copy found in only two institutional libraries. A collection of sporting anecdotes collected and edited by 'Ellangowan', pseudonym of James Glass Bertram, concerning a great variety of sports. James Glass Bertram was a Scottish author, known as apprentice to Tait's Edinburgh Magazine. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with some shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, the boards soiled and marked, damp staining to the front board. Minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine, which is lightly darkened. Alan Thornton's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
