Butler an Ohio Argonaut in 1853 became a gambler in the California mining camps of the day. Major Bolin was his real name not a military title but David Butler became him, the gambler and epitomized the wayward emigrants of whom California made rich and many of whom became desperadoes, thieves ending up on the front pages of the early news papers. This is the story of one such man and the case of The People vs. David Butler which ended in Butler being hung. Also enclosed is a facsimile of the Nevada Democrat for March 3, 1858. B&W illustrations, 87 pages. Good.
