Fables Bookshop was established in Grahamstown at the very end of 1989 and was a shopfront location there until 2018.

We then relocated to Bathurst close to Port Alfred. We have a good general collectable and academic stock. We are now concentrating on online sales with stock displayed in a prominent location in the village.

We specialise in Africana particularly that relating to Southern Africa. Other specialities include Modern First Editions and Homoerotica

We issue email Africana catalogues which we send out to our mailing list, up to 6 per annum. We are also approved sellers on Antiquarian Auctions.

We are a Founder Member of SABDA (the Southern African Book Dealers Association).

Terms of Sale

Prices quoted exclude p&p and forex charges which will quoted for each order. For local customers books will be sent by Pudo locker-to-locker. Overseas postings will be by Economy Courier.

Books are described in good faith in accordance with usual trade definitions and all major defects noted. Minor inscriptions & marks, etc. may be ignored unless book is VG or better.

Local customers to make an electronic transfer (EFT).
Overseas customers will be sent a PayPal invoice.
We have a US bank account for $$ payments by US corporate customers only.

Each purchase can be returned to the seller within 7 days after reception, without explanation (an e-mail to notify the seller would be appreciated however), after which the billed amount (excluding postage costs) will be restituted to the buyer. If the buyer returns the goods to the seller because the description of the books does not conform to the actual condition of the goods then the billed amount including the postage costs will be restituted to the buyer. Returned goods should be received by the seller in the same condition as when sent to the buyer. The risk of returning goods is for the account of the sender, they should be sent by courier as the South African Post Office no longer offers a viable commercial service and we are unlikely to receive such parcels.
