Fables Bookshop was established in Grahamstown at the very end of 1989 and was a shopfront location there until 2018.

As of November 2018 we have relocated to Bathurst just next to Port Alfred. We have a good general collectable and academic stock. We are now concentrating on online sales with stock displayed in 'On Route 67' along with our friends 'Books of Bathurst'.

We specialise in Africana particularly that relating to Southern Africa and more particularly that of the Eastern Cape. We issue email catalogues which we send out to our mailing list, up to 6 per annum. We are a member of SABDA (the Southern African Book Dealers Association). We are accredited to sell on the local antiquarian book auction.

Terms of Sale

Postage
Prices quoted exclude p&p and forex charges which will quoted for each order. Books will be sent registered or insured parcel. Overseas postings will be by airmail unless other requested otherwise.
We do not recommend sending by surface mail, from South Africa to any other continent as this can take up to 6 months - whoever you buy from, wherever you are. Airmail rates typically GBP20 - GBP25 for up to 1000g.

Descriptions
Books are described in good faith in accordance with usual trade definitions and all major defects noted. Minor inscriptions & marks, etc. may be ignored unless book is VG or better.

Payments
Payment by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal. Other payments by prior arrangement. Local customers to make an electronic transfer (EFT).
We have a secure site for transfer of card details.
We have a US bank account for $$ payments.

Returns
Each purchase can be returned to the seller within 7 days after reception, without explanation (an e-mail to notify the seller would be appreciated however), after which the billed amount (excluding postage costs) will be restituted to the buyer. If the buyer returns the goods to the seller because the description of the books does not conform to the actual condition of the goods then the billed amount including the postage costs will be restituted to the buyer. Returned goods should be received by the seller in the same condition as when sent to the buyer. The risk of returning goods is for the account of the sender.
