RICHARD AND SAMUEL REDGRAVE - A Century of British PaintersLondon England, Phaidon Press, 1947. New Edition, Binding: Cloth, Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall Hardback Hardback. Foxing to end inside covers. Sunned spine. Blue and red cloth with gilt lettering. A New Edition With a Bibliographical Index and One Hundred Illustrations. This book appeared first in 1866, and it still remains an important source book of information about the nineteenth century painters whom Richard Redgrave, as a Royal Academican, had known well, in addition to providing a convenient and readable account of the history of painting, in these islands as a whole before the end of the eighteenth century. This new edition, which is largely founded upon the second edition of 1890, has been checked to correct dates and facts, established since by modern research. For the most part, errors have been corrected silently, to avoid an overburdening with notes, which would have detracted from the great virtue of the book, which is its readability. The illustrations have been chosen by Mr. L. Goldscheider. Illustrations. 613 pp. GBP 10.00 [Appr.: EURO 11.75 US$ 13.41 | JP¥ 1996] Book number 087685To our regrets this title was recently sold.
