CARROLL, LEWIS; GARDNER, MARTIN (EDITOR) - The Wasp in a Wig a Supressed Episode of Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.New York, Clarkson N. Potter, Inc. 1977, Trade Edition. (ISBN: 0517532662). Decorative Cloth, with dust jacket, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ill.: Tenniel, John. Book, Lovett and Lovett 453b; price-clipped dustjacket. This is actually a chapter that was left out of Through the Looking Glass. Carroll decided to not include it after his artist, Sir John Tenniel, could not see his way through to develop an illustration for the chapter. Until 1974, the chapter remained hidden away, only to surface at an auction. Interestingly, this edition is supposed to have illustrations by Steadman, but does not. An anomaly or just dumped by the publisher or editor? Steadman believes the latter (ask me for details). Fine/Fine.
