WALTER BIRMINGHAM - Introduction to Economics. (West African Series)Harmondsworth. Middlesex., Penguin, 1955. 1st Paperback Edition, Binding: Softcover, Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall Paperback This is the first introduction to economic theory written specially for West African readers. The principles of economic theory may be the same all over the world, but their application varies. Here, all the examples have been drawn from West African experience; and special emphasis is laid on those parts of economic theory which can be applied to the problems of agricultural and trading communities, not only in West Africa, but in other parts of the tropics. Less attention has been paid to the fluctuations of a highly industrialized system or the complexities of a modern money market. This does not mean that economic theory has been specially simplified for West African readers; on the contrary, the book demands close study and concentration, and some of the chapters may have to be read two or three times over. No previous knowledge of economics is necessary; but a whole chapter is devoted to suggestions for further reading, with helpful comments on each book. Some underlining in pen on some pages but very good.(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
