NORMAN DENNY & JOSEPHINE FILMER-SANKEY - The Travels of Sir John Mandeville. An Abridged Version With Commentary

London England, Collins, 1973. First Thus, Binding: Cloth, Good/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall 0001923293 Hardback In the year 1322 John Mandeville set out on his travels, and in the 1360s he published his book The Travels of Sir John Mandeville. For many years men thought of it as a true travel book: but today, when we know considerably more geography than they did in the Middle Ages, it is clear that Mandeville could not possibly have visited all the places he claims to have seen. The original version is very long - over eighty thousand words. In this new edited version the editors have retained the best of the original, aiming to give an impression of the book as a whole and using a linking narrative to bridge the gaps and fill in some of the historical background. 95 pp. Slight foxing to end pages and edge. Some marks to cloth. Some wear to corners of cloth. Wear and tear to D/J.
