Illustrated with three copper engravings inc. frontis. This is complete as stated in ‘The Dartons’ by Lawrence Darton, ref. H495. In fact, this book is the same copy as used by Lawrence Darton, the inscription is the same ‘Emily Jane Wood given to her by her Grandmama as a Christmas Box 1819’. Bound in half leather with a black roan spine and red marble boards. The boards are worn, the leather on the spine is chipped with small pieces missing, a small segment of the book is proud which has caused the pages to be a little frayed along the edges, paper slightly discoloured, otherwise a nice copy.Moon in her bibliography ‘The Children’s Books of Mary (Belson) Elliot’, 1987, no. 282, suggests that copies that have the spelling error of ‘entrance’ (entrace’) on page 176, are the ‘First Issue.’ This copy does have the mis-spelling and does have a variant title page, the printers line under the title page being slightly thicker. .
