In Moscow, where Fan-Shi had been sent for training in 1927 by the Chinese Communist Party, he encountered Trotskyist. As a Trotskyist he was expelled from the party. Six years after his imprisonment in 1931, he was released just as the Japanese armies arrived in Nanking, then, throughout the war and until his exile in 1949, he continued to promulgate the Trotskyist heresy.
