DOROTHY THOMPSON - Sophia's Son: The Story of a Suffolk Parson : The Rev. Henry Thompson M.A., His Life and Times, 1841-1916

Great Britain, Terence Dalton Ltd, 1975. 3rd Impression, Binding: Cloth, Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall 0900963166 Harback Hardback. Very slight foxing to edge. Shelf wear to top edge of D/J. This is the biography of a Victorian parson, the Reverend Henry Thompson. He was born in 1841 and educated at Blackheath and Corpus Christi, Cambridge, before his ordination in 1865. This beautiful story of a family catches the true flavour of the Victorian/Edwardian era. It was written by his daughter, Dorothy Thompson, who is now ninety-four years of age. Whilst a biography of her father, it is also a cameo of the times through which he lived. It tells of dangers at sea, including the wrecking of the Aldeburgh lifeboat; of a family adapting itself to country life, and the Suffolk dialect; their friends and neighbours. A story at times amusing, at times sad but at all times sincere. Illustrated. 160 pp.
